Vesper Technologies LLC ("we", "us", or "our"), an Oregon limited liability company, operates the Vesper suite of accessibility tools and the vesperapps.com website. This policy describes what data each product collects, why, and how it is handled. We collect the minimum data needed to operate each product.

This website is hosted by Netlify. Netlify may collect standard server log data (IP addresses, request paths, timestamps) as part of normal hosting operations, subject to Netlify's privacy policy. We do not use third-party analytics tools or advertising trackers on this website. This website does not use cookies for tracking or advertising. Netlify may set functional cookies as part of their hosting infrastructure.

Vesper Colors - iOS app and web tool

Vesper Colors collects no personal data. All color contrast calculations happen locally on your device or in your browser. No usage data, analytics, or identifiers are transmitted to any server. The Share feature generates a URL containing only the two hex color values you have chosen - no personal information - and opens your device's native share sheet or copies to your clipboard. You control where that URL goes.

Vesper Colors - Chrome extension

The Vesper Colors Chrome extension reads the computed CSS styles of pages you visit to extract the colors they use. All extraction happens locally in your browser. The extension does not transmit any data about the pages you visit, the colors you collect, or your usage to any server. Your color collection is stored locally in your browser's extension storage and never leaves your machine.

The extension requests host permissions so it can read styles on whatever site you choose to extract colors from. This is used only on demand when you start a pick or scan - not for background monitoring or data collection. The palette links it builds contain only hex color values and any labels you type - no personal information.

Vesper Inspect - Chrome extension

Vesper Inspect inspects accessibility attributes of elements on pages you visit. All processing happens locally in your browser. The extension does not transmit any data about the pages you visit, the elements you inspect, or your usage to any server.

Vesper Inspect requests host permissions to interact with page content. This is required for element inspection and is used only on demand when you activate the extension - not for background monitoring or data collection.

Vesper Audit - macOS desktop app

No telemetry. Vesper Audit does not collect usage data, crash reports, or analytics of any kind. Nothing about how you use the app, what you scan, or what it finds is sent anywhere. The app contacts our servers only for licensing and update checks, described in full below.

Machine identifier. Licensing uses a machine identifier derived from your Mac's hardware and stored as a hash, not a random value we generate. We use a hardware-derived identifier on purpose: it is what stops a trial being reset by reinstalling the app, and it is what lets a license cover a set number of Macs. It is not linked to your name, and it tells us nothing about you beyond distinguishing one machine from another. Because it is derived rather than generated, deleting the app's local files does not change it.

License activation and checks. When you activate a license, your license key, the machine identifier, and your Mac's name are sent to a serverless function at vesperapps.com and stored with the license, so that you can tell your own devices apart in a seat list. Your Mac's name is whatever is set in System Settings, and by default macOS often builds it from the account holder's name - if you would rather it did not identify you, rename your Mac before activating. While a license is active, the app re-checks it on launch so that an expired or cancelled subscription returns to the free tier. Deactivating a machine sends the same identifiers; opening the subscription management portal sends only your license key.

Free licenses. If you request a free license, we store your email address alongside the key we issue and use it to send you that key. We do not use it for marketing unless you separately opt in to product updates.

Trials. If you start a trial, its start date is recorded on our server against your machine identifier, not only on your Mac. This is deliberate: a trial held only in local storage can be restarted by deleting a file. No other information is recorded with it. So that the app knows whether a trial is running, it asks our server each time it opens and sends the machine identifier with that question; if you have never started a trial, nothing is recorded in response.

Update checks. The app fetches a version manifest from vesperapps.com on launch. No identifying information is sent with it.

Local storage. Your license key is stored on your Mac in the system Keychain, along with its expiry date, the date it was last checked, and which tier it is. Your scan settings and preferences are stored in the app's local configuration folder. Neither is transmitted to us or to any third party except as described above.

Scanned websites. Vesper Audit crawls websites you provide and runs accessibility checks locally. The results are stored on your machine. Nothing about the websites you scan is transmitted to us.

Vesper Guides - web

Vesper Guides is a static website hosted by Netlify. It collects no personal data. No accounts, no analytics, no tracking.

Purchases and payments

Supporter licenses for Vesper Audit are sold through a third-party payment processor that acts as Merchant of Record. When you become a supporter, your name, email address, and payment information are collected and processed by the payment provider under their own privacy policy. We receive your email address to contact you about your license and the fact of your purchase to verify activations. We do not receive or store your payment card details.

Children's privacy

The Services are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.

Data retention

Purchase records are retained by our payment processor per their own retention policy. Activation records stored in connection with Supporter license validation are retained for the duration of the license and deleted on request.

Your rights

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data we hold about you via our contact page. For data held by our payment processor, please refer to their privacy policy or contact them directly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the Services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
